Due to our current economic status, our school budgets are in danger. WeiTing found a short article titled NY education chief slams budget cuts
. This article talk about State Education Commissioner David Steiner and tells lawmakers that if David Paterson’s proposed school budget cuts went through, the public school system may never recover.
Since school budgets are currently very tight, and we hope to place our project on local politics into public schools, cutting school budgets may be a big problem.
“It’s no secret New York state is having severe problems financially, so if there’s money out there you would think we’d want to go out and get it,” Mr. Paterson told reporters. According to Paterson, cutting school funds seems to be the only way. However, I don’t totally agree with him. I think we should be more careful about where the money is going in schools and not necessary think about cutting the budget.
In addition, I agree with Richard C. Iannuzzi who said “Mr. Paterson’s proposed cuts would take a devastating toll on schools and taxpayers.”
